Evviva, was inspired by the innovative push in the late 1960s from a couple of high profile families in Tuscany who helped redefine the boundaries on “traditional recipes” for Chianti wine, historically produced from Sangiovese. By stepping out of the box from classic protocol established by the Italian Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC), the creativity of Marchese Piero Antinori (Tignanello) and his Uncle, Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta (Sassicaia), revolutionized the wine industry and opened the floodgates for other international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Syrah, and others. Thus, the Super Tuscan wines were born.
For us at Biddle Ranch Vineyards, the inspiration also comes from our own Italian roots with partner Led Fortini, whose family lineage dates back nearly 100 years on the Central Coast. With red wine running through his veins, and a deep desire to hold onto Italian roots here in San Luis Obispo County, we searched for our own Super Tuscan.
The 2012 Evviva is a complex offering which seamlessly balances Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Aglianico, and Merlot. This wine was aged for 22 months in 100% French oak, 25% new. Like many other Italian inspired wines, Evviva yearns for food, family, and friends. It has beautiful aromatics, wonderful structure, balanced acidity, and stuffing for long ageability.
